Trying to Find a Balance

What do I mean balance?

Do you ever feel like your life is a game of whack-a-mole. Everytime you get ontop of something another area of your life seems to sufffer.

You’re definitely not alone.

Try some of these orientation exercises to help measure where your life might be out of balance and how you can adjust.

Have you ever truly asked yourself: ‘what do health, wealth, love, and happiness look like to me?’ My experience is that everyone you meet has a different standard they measure to when it comes to health, wealth, love, and happiness.

Calibration exercise

Ask yourself;

  • What does good health look like for me?
  • What do I consider wealthy?
  • What do I need to feel love?
  • What makes me happy?

These simple questions will help you to calibrate your own standards of health, wealth, love and happiness. By understanding your own criteria for fulfillment in these areas of life it will help you to achieve a true balance in your life. The exercise of looking inward and understanding yourself will help you to make desicions in areas of your life that align with your core values and purpose.

I strongly encourage you if you haven’t already to disregard any ego and limiting beliefs and continue to read. For me understanding this has helped me achieve and maintain true happiness in my life.

Health

Let’s start with health. Are you living your life in a healthy way. Can you identify areas in your life you wish you could be healthier? What action do you need to take to make a healthier life?

I love the phrase ‘health is wealth.’ I really believe that a healthy body and mind is such an important factor to being able to achieve true happiness. Here are some of my resources that I believe will help you achieve a healthy body and healthy mind.

If you feel that you aren't eating a healthy diet and maybe you would like to lose some weight you can get started to change that right now. Check out my post on how to eat healthy by default.

I believe that you need to exercise and move your body regularly to promote a flow of energy in the body. With a positive energy in the body you can focus your mind to work harder and smarter check out my posts on fitness. I want to help you create a positive energy within the body.

Lastly I believe to be completely healthy you also have to train your mind. Like a tree we must always continue to grow throughout our lives. If we are to become dormant that will only cause us to begin to perish faster. As humans our strongest muscle is our mind so constantly expanding the mind with new teachings that promote new thinking and ideas is what I believe to be the best way to continue to grow.

Check out some of my posts on mindset for some useful insights on what I think can help change your mind.

Wealth

Orientating yourself for more health, wealth, love and happiness is all about achieving balance.

When it comes to creating wealth it should never come at the cost to your health, love, or happiness. Yet so often in so many cases, it does. Ask yourself when was the last time you worked late at the cost of your happiness, then ordered takeout at the cost of your health, missing dinner with your loved one or friends at the cost of the love.

Building wealth can and should be done through something you enjoy. Your wealth generator should give as much back to you as you to it.

Can you identify the wealth pain points in your life? What action do you need to implement to make change?

Ask yourself:

  • Is what I am doing to generate wealth making me happy?
  • Am I trading time for money?
  • Do I have multiple income streams?
  • Am I living within my means?

It's  these types of questions that will help you get a handle on your financial life and say goodbye to financial stress.

For me I chose to make a huge change to my life so I could follow my passion and create a lifestyle of my choice using The Digital Experts Academy. This was the stepping stone that allowed me personally to achieve the wealth and lifestyle I desired.

Love

It’s easy to skip over the section titled ‘Love’ in an attempt to defend your ego. However, for me this is one the most important areas in my life in which I strive to remain fulfilled.

As with the previous section achieving a balance of health, wealth, love, and happiness are difficult. Wealth so often comes at the cost of happiness and health, but it also regularly impacts the love in our life. Love in this sense can sometimes be seen as ‘social’ because it’s not just about the fluffy stuff. You get a feeling of love spending time with the people you care for, this can be friends, family as well as your partner (if you currently have one.) Love also comes from an appreciation of the world around you.

Learn from the past

Think back to the times you've suffered loss or heartbreak. I’m not asking you to dwell on the past but to acknowledge those times and think of them as a lesson. A lesson to teach you to appreciate what you have before it’s gone. Remember not to neglect the people and world around you or they can neglect you.

Embrace the present

As human beings, we crave social interaction. A sense of community and belonging, are all feelings of love and in my opinion an absolute essential to being able to achieve happiness.

It is hugely important that in pursuit of health, wealth, love, and happiness you can ensure an abundance of love. People to share your life with. These people will help you learn and grow, but also come to your aid when you're down.

Relationships are living and two ways though, which means you must not forget to help the people around you learn and grow, and also be at their aid when they are down.

Remember to take the time for Love.

Happiness

Happiness is the holy grail of health, wealth, love and happiness. If you ask yourself why enough times about your actions and intentions almost always the route cause is happiness. It’s the end game so to speak. I believe everything we do as human beings is in pursuit of happiness.

It is my opinion that happiness comes from the satisfaction and balance of health, wealth and love.

If you work for your wealth at the expense of your health, and love. It will not matter how wealthy you become you will never achieve true happiness.

Likewise if you strive for love and health at the expense of wealth you could leave yourself starved of wealth. Which in extreme cases can be dangerous. Most often a starvation of wealth is an enormous stress and one that is difficult to escape. Being starved of wealth will cause extreme difficulty in finding happiness.

Ask youself the question ‘Why am I doing this?,’ enough times and you will almost always find the route cause of any action is to achieve some sort of happiness. So ask the question. Is there a shorcut to happienss.

For example;

Perhaps you are pursing a promotion at work, you are working extra hours. In pursuit of the promotion you are hoping to achieve an increase in pay to allow which you intent to spend on taking your loved one/s somewhere nice for some quality time.

Then you have to ask yourself, why not save yourself the stress of hard work and extra hours. Instead you could spend that quality time with your loved ones right now? Wouldn’t that make you happy.

The above example obviously can play out with a few other factors in the real world. It’s improtant however to alter your thinking sometimes and ask whether or not you are really making yourself happy.

Conclusion

Achieving balance in the pursuit of health, wealth, love, and happiness is a difficult and ever-changing endeavor. Awareness of how you calibrate in each area will help, this can and should be done quickly and often to ensure you aren't off-balance. Often high satisfaction in one area compromises another. Which is why we should always be looking inward to understand ourselves. Understanding your core values, purpose and personal standards will help you to see and sometimes prevent a loss of balance.

Outside circumstances are inevitable and you will always be thrown off course in areas of health, wealth, love and happiness at times. By understanding what your standards are in each area, it is easier to quickly calibrate and re-align yourself.
